As most of you know, DiscountMugs headquarters is located in Miami. A place known for its vibrancy, welcoming community and where all things are possible, the heart of South Florida was affected by one of the most powerful and destructive hurricanes to have been observed in our recent history.
Although we armed with all the necessary precautions to protect ourselves and loved ones from the approaching storm, nearly 1000 of our employees witnessed firsthand the effects of Hurricane Irma and the disheartening aftermath.
The residents of the Sunshine State quickly came together and started working towards recovery. Most have returned from evacuation shelters and neighboring states to their homes, and now grip together to face a devastation that has left some homeless and others stripped of their most valuable possessions. Authorities have warned the citizens of South Florida that repairs to some of the most affected areas will take weeks, if not months. They also have urged inhabitants of the Florida Keys to return to the mainland, since essentials like electricity, water and sewage will be irregular while efforts to rebuild are made.
Some of the most observable damages include downed power lines, fallen trees, as well as underwater and blocked roads.
As entire communities come together in the face of disaster, at DiscountMugs we have made efforts to partner with Global Giving – an international crowdfunding platform that allows organizations like ours to connect with communities and causes around the world to relief those in need at a time of adversity.
Our goal is to plant the seed for kindness and gather love from a community of loyal customers like you, who have shown our organization affection and appreciation throughout the years. Compassion is humanity’s most cherished trait, and today it can create everlasting impact in the lives of those who need it the most.
Though the desire to help can be overwhelming at times, there are little things you can do to help big when tragedy strikes. Keep in mind that the generosity of man can be measured by the way we treat those who cannot return a favor.
Even though most of our residents are now safe from immediate harm, it takes enormous efforts from all of us in the community to support them during these awful times. We encourage all of those who can to help, in however way they can. Many are volunteering their time and living space, and everyone else, we urge to help by donating money so we can continue cooperating with the organizations aiding in the relief.
At DiscountMugs, our hearts weigh heavy seeing the devastation so many of our neighbors face. However, we’re not immune to the suffering of those affected by other recent natural disasters outside of our community. In addition, we kindly invite you to make donations for our Texan and Puerto Rican brothers, who were recently affected by Hurricane Harvey and Hurricane Maria, as well as for our neighbors in Mexico who are experiencing a most overwhelming seismic activity.
Our promise is to match donations made to our crowdfunding page with pledges up to a maximum of 10,000 dollars in total from now to the end of October, 2017. With your help we can spread the light our global community needs in these dark times.
