Types of Glassware Needed for Bar or Restaurant
So you always wanted to open up a bar or restaurant but had no idea you would need so much stuff. Obviously the type of glassware you choose will depend largely on the establishment you decide to use them in. If you’re opening up a bar, there are standard glassware items you’ll need and more niche types of glassware you’ll want to impress your patrons. If you’re opening up a restaurant the glassware items you’ll use will depend on the type of drinks you’ll be serving. You can also choose to get these items customized with your restaurant or bar logo on them or get the glassware blank for a more subtle approach.
Bar ownership is a colorful and fun endeavor, but getting all the personalized glassware items can be hectic so be sure to get the right type and quantity of glassware items. First of all, you’re going to want get standard drinking glasses to give your patrons the option of drinking non-alcoholic beverages. Drinking glasses range in size but the average glass should be around twelve-to-fifteen-ounces. Next you’ll want to get the always classic conical pint glasses; the standard pint is sixteen fluid ouches so be sure to get a sixteen ounce glass if you’re going to be serving it as an official “pint glass”. A pint glass can be used to serve many different types of beer but is best served with Ales and darker beers.
The next type of glass you’ll want to get for your bar is the Pilsner Glass; this glass is long and slender and ranges in size. The Pilsner glass is used to serve Pilsner beer which is a pale lager that continues to grow in popularity in the United States. Many avid beer drinkers prefer to drink Pilsner beer in a Pilsner Glass, so having them available is a good way to impress your clientele. In terms of liquor glasses, most bars have cocktail glasses and shot glasses available for customers as well. While many bars stop at several different types of glasses, other glasses that can be used to further impress your customers like beer steins, wheat beer glasses, yard glasses, beer boot glasses and stemware.
Restaurants are not that different when it comes to glassware items, but depending on the restaurant, you’ll want to focus more on the stemware and cocktail glasses than the beer and shot glasses. Stemware items vary in style but include categories like wine glasses, brandy snifters, champagne flutes and goblets. Make sure you have both white and red wine glasses as wine drinkers are particular about their glassware. Also if you’re serving brandy, be sure to have brandy snifters as they are very distinct glasses that add a high level of formality and class to your establishment. The cocktail glass also has a very distinct shape and is used to serve popular drinks like martinis, daiquiris and margaritas. Restaurants must also supply standard glassware items like drinking glasses for non-alcoholic beverages like soda, juice and water.
