Sometimes with the never ending evolution of technology we forget that most things we purchase in the store can be made at home.  One of those things is the beverage we like to call beer.  Why waste a ton of money on expensive beer companies when you can make it in the comfort of your own home using inexpensive equipment.

Home brewing equipment is not all that expensive.  You can purchase everything you need for around $100 to $150 bucks. To start brewing your own delicious and frothy beer, you will need the following items:
1.    Brew Pot – large kitchen pot that will hold a couple of gallons of water.
2.    Strainer – to strain grains and hops before going to the fermenter.
3.    Rolling Pin – for crushing the grain
4.    3 Gallon Container – serve  as your fermentation container
5.    Kitchen thermometer –to check temperatures.
6.    Large funnel.
7.    Primary fermenter.

Additionally you will need some additional ingredients to make your beer such as water, dry malt extract and instant starter wort.

First, heat the water and malt to a boil for 10 minutes and then cool to 60 degrees Fahrenheit. You can check the temperature with a thermometer or by rule of thumb, which is typically room temperature. Sanitize the gallon container with a no-rinse sterilizer. Next, pitch the yeast by tossing in around yeast cells that is recommend in your starter kit or by your recipe.  Toss it into the 60-degree wort. Cover the starter wort and put aside. Make sure the container is not airtight.  You can use aluminum foil or saran wrap.
After primary fermentation, place the beer in bottles for secondary fermentation and storage. You need enough bottles to hold all the beer you’re going to make. The best kind of bottles are solid glass ones with smooth tops that will accept a cap from a bottle capper. You can use plastic ones with screw-on lids, but they don’t look as stylish and are not recommended because it is not as good for fermentation.
Whether you use glass or plastic bottles, make sure they are dark-colored. Light damages beer and ruins the fermentation process.  After two weeks at room temperature, the beer should be fully carbonated and ready to be drink.
